Dear Me in five years,
You’re probably a lot smarter than me. Actually scratch that. I’m probably more ignorant than you. You’ve seen five more years of our life, granting you higher enlightenment rate per year. This however, does not make you smarter than me. I have seen people stupider than they were five years prior. Hey, let’s hope you’re smarter for our sake. Who knows? Maybe conformity crept into my blood and I sold out to all the things I hate. I hope not, but it’s a possibility. Time does terrible things to a person. Okay, we’ve gotten off to a bad start. I’m going to be positive and tell you what kind of man I want you to be by now. Well, first of all, I hope you’ve expanded your vocabulary. I also hope the White Stripes, released a new album and we saw them live. I hope you’re in a band, ripping it sick on lead or rhythm guitar, maybe lead or back vox too. I hope you’re studying theatre and starring in plays non-stop. That would be very good. I hope you’ve kept watching awesome movies and maybe got a blog talking about movies. I hope you’re not as lazy as I am now. Don’t get me wrong, I like laziness. I just feel like I wouldn’t miss it if my entire life revolved around me being productive and active. Not to say I don’t do a lot of things nowadays not worth noting. I just feel like I could be doing a lot more if I wasn’t so lazy. However, one thing I’ll always be an advocate for is having one day of the week where you can just relax and not think about all the things you have to do. Hopefully our schedule allows it throughout the future. I don’t want to get an ulcer or pop a blood vessel, so I’d like for the rest of my life to designate a day for a recliner, food, music and movies. I also hope you’re living well in your own place maybe with a few housemates, not behind on rent, with food in your stomach. I’ve always put off learning how to cook. Maybe by five years from now, I’ll have taken the time to learn. But you know what, as long as you’re living with people who can cook, you’ve got it made in the shade. I know what I want you to be like; Laid back, but productive.
Sincerely,
You in Grade 12
